Common Damage To Rubber Airbags

1. Ships are overweight
This type of damage often occurs in rubber fenders, especially in some old rubber fenders, which usually crack at weak foundations of the structure. The gap is usually in the long and short directions of the rubber fender. D-type and V-type rubber fenders are more common. The key reason for the cracking of the rubber fenders is that the mechanical energy of the ship colliding with the rubber fenders is very high, exceeding the load that the rubber fenders can bear. The reason for the excessive mechanical energy in ship collisions is due to the large berthing speed and angle of view. When the berthing angle is very large, the bow of the ship touches the port and rubber fenders in the central southern part of the hull, causing strong collision mechanical energy to concentrate on one or more rubber fenders, resulting in the damage of the rubber fenders. The collision effect of ships is too significant. In addition to the reasons mentioned above, there are also ships berthed in ports that exceed the designed capacity of passenger and cargo ships, as well as the harm caused by strong winds and waves to the ships.
2. Poor anchoring and connection of steel bars
This situation has occurred in various rubber fenders. The rubber fenders have abnormal conditions such as looseness, displacement, and falling into the sea. The key reason for this situation is that the technical conditions of the anchor bolts or iron chains of the steel bar anchoring rubber fenders are not very good, or maintenance is not closely followed. The metal composite materials such as steel bars, anchor bolts, and iron chains that fix fixed rubber fenders rust quickly in marine resources and are not easy to replace, resulting in poor fixation of rubber fenders and seriously endangering all normal applications of rubber fenders. Although some steel bar anchoring anchor bolts consider the standard of disassembly and replacement in the design scheme, they are usually not ideal in specific applications. The method of anchoring anchor bolts with V-shaped rubber fenders and anchor bolt boxes with embedded parts. The original design scheme was intended to facilitate the maintenance and replacement of anchor bolts for steel reinforcement anchoring, but in practical applications, it cannot be replaced due to rusting of steel parts, deformation of anchor bolts, and other reasons, which endangers the quality of fixed rubber fenders and causes them to fall and be damaged.
3. Friction damage
This situation usually occurs in mobile V-shaped and D-shaped rubber fenders. The key damage conditions of rubber fenders include chipping, cracking, and surface abrasion. The key reason for such damage is the high sliding friction between the rubber fenders and the ship. When a ship docks at a high tangential speed, the rubber fenders and the hull partially collide due to excessive sliding friction, forcing them to move forward with the ship, resulting in the rubber fenders being sheared and damaged. In addition, during the anchoring period, the ship must sometimes move forward, backward, left, and right, as well as the up and down or left and right shaking caused by waves and currents. In this case, when the frictional resistance between the ship and the rubber fender is greater than 0.4 (such as when the mooring rope is pulled too tightly), it often leads to the damage of the rubber fender.
