What is Floating Foam Filled Fender?

 

Polyurea Skin + EVA Foam Filled Fender is a floating-type compression fender that is highly versatile and suitable for a wide range of applications. We also call that floating foam-filled fender. It consists of an outer Polyurethane protective layer, reinforced rubber nylon cord fabric, as well as an internal space filled with foam as a medium to absorb collision. The foam fender's outer layer has extremely low frictional resistance and is highly resistant to wear due to its strength. The foam fender effectively absorbs the impact force, thus decreasing the force felt by the wharf or vessel where they come into contact.

Our floating foam fenders feature an innovative internal design that efficiently absorbs shear loads using a through-chain arrangement with end-shackles. Unlike traditional foam fenders, this structure allows for damaged components to be easily replaced individually, minimizing the risk of the entire fender becoming unusable due to damage to integral end-fittings.

Typically floating fenders would be supplied as cylindrical units, but due to our flexible manufacturing processes and our commitment to offering the best possible assistance to our customers, we have also supplied spherical, rectangular and cog-type fenders.

Materials of Floating Foam Filled Fender

 

A thick coating of PU is sprayed onto the PE foam core, thereby improving its performance and to give the fender increased resistance against abrasion during operations on Quay Walls, piers, jetties and/or aggressive surfaces.

"Mobile" Fenders are made to order, manufactured to the nearest centimeter both in diameter and length, precisely made to measure to neither exceed nor underestimate its ability to perform.

A combination of materials using Polyurethane matrix (PU) of polyester polyurea type is used to create a protective coating that is resistant to hydrolysis and marine conditions. This coating is strengthened with fibers, thread layers, synthetic fabrics, and sometimes metal. The thickness of the coating typically ranges from 5 mm to 50 mm, but can be applied thicker for certain specialized uses.

The closed-cell polyethylene (PE) foam provides full buoyancy, even if the outer coating is damaged. Various densities, ranging from 18 kg/m³ to 200 kg/m³, are offered to maximize energy dissipation and minimize reaction forces.

Tips for Using Floating Foam Filled Fender
  • It is strictly prohibited to contact sharp objects with the fender surface to prevent the fender from breaking and affecting its service life.
  • When installing the fender, each fixed point should be connected in an orderly and firm manner to prevent detachment from being washed away by water.
  • During the use of the fender, frequently check its floating.
  • When the fender is not used for a long time, clean its surface and store it in a dry, cool, and ventilated place.
  • The absorption energy of a single fender should be greater than the berthing energy of the ship. When selecting a fender, please compare the ship's berthing energy table with the specification performance table of the foam fender.
  • The berthing speed of ships should be less than 0.3 m/s.
  • Low-density foam is not recommended for large fenders.
